The activity of the lab is focused on sol-gel processes used for the synthesis of original nanomaterials, based on oxides (metallic, organic-inorganic hybrides, inorganic-biologic hybrides), with various structures.

The aim is to better understand the processes involved in the inorganic polymerisation to control the whole process "synthesis - shaping - microstructure - properties".

The laboratory has about 25 permanent researchers with more than 30 PhD students and post-docs, amongst 70 members.

Collaborations
The laboratory has established numerous collaborations with French and foreign laboratories.
Although our activity is strongly oriented towards fundamental research, we are linked  with many industrial partners, primarily through post-docs and PhD programs.
Among these collaborations, for example: Saint-Gobain Recherches, Rhône-Poulenc, Rhodia, Philips, Corning, L'Oréal, Institut Français du Pétrole, Protavix...

Laboratory location
The LCMCP (Laboratoire de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Paris, Chemistry of condensed matter laboratory ) is a mixed UPMC - CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) centre, distributed on 2 main sites:
The Collège de France and the Graduate school of chemistry of Paris.

It is headed by Clément Sanchez, CNRS research director.
